The Directorate General, Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, has released an important recruitment notification for Head Constable (Laboratory Assistant), Head Constable (Physiotherapy Assistant) and Constable (Nursing Assistant cum Medic) posts in Group-C Non-Gazetted (Combatised) & Non-Ministerial category. This is one of the most sought-after SSB government jobs 2026 in the paramedical and healthcare sector. The total vacancy is 76 posts. Selected candidates may be posted anywhere in India or outside the territory of India and will be governed by SSB Act & Rules.

SSB Medical Recruitment 2026 – Vacancy Details

The post-wise and category-wise vacancy distribution is: Head Constable (Laboratory Assistant) – 30 posts (UR-15, EWS-2, OBC-8, SC-4, ST-1); Head Constable (Physiotherapy Assistant) – 12 posts (UR-7, EWS-1, OBC-3, SC-1, ST-0); Constable (Nursing Assistant cum Medic) – 34 posts (UR-17, EWS-2, OBC-9, SC-4, ST-2). A total of 10% vacancies are reserved for Ex-Servicemen. A candidate can apply for only one post.

Pay Scale & Salary – 7th CPC

Head Constable (Laboratory Assistant) and Head Constable (Physiotherapy Assistant) will get Pay Matrix Level-4: Rs 25500–81100 as per the 7th Central Pay Commission. Constable (Nursing Assistant cum Medic) will be placed at Pay Matrix Level-3: Rs 21700–69100. In addition, all selected candidates receive Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Ration Money Allowance and other admissible allowances. Selected candidates will be covered under New Pension Scheme (NPS) or Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) applicable to Central Government new entrants.

Eligibility Criteria – Age Limit & Educational Qualification

The age limit for SSB Medical Recruitment 2026 is between 18 and 27 years for all three posts. Age relaxation is available: SC/ST – 5 years; OBC – 3 years; Ex-Servicemen – 3 years after deduction of military service rendered; Departmental Candidates – UR up to 40 years, SC/ST up to 45 years.

Head Constable (Laboratory Assistant): Candidates must have passed 12th class with Biology as a subject from a recognised Board. They must also hold a Certificate course of minimum 1 year in Laboratory Assistant Course from a recognised institution, and have minimum 1 year working experience as Lab Assistant in a Laboratory Diagnostic Centre or hospital lab recognised by the Central or State Government.

Head Constable (Physiotherapy Assistant): Candidates must have passed 12th class from a recognised Board and completed a minimum 1-year Certificate course in Physiotherapy from a recognised institute. They must also have at least 1 year experience as Physiotherapy Assistant from a Physiotherapy Centre or 100-bedded hospital/institution recognised by Central/State Government.

Constable (Nursing Assistant cum Medic): Candidates must have passed 10th class from a recognised Board, possess a First Aid certificate from St. John's Ambulance Organisation or Red Cross Society of India, and have minimum 1 year working experience as Nursing Assistant in a minimum 50-bedded Hospital or Institution recognised by Central or State Government.

Selection Process for SSB Medical Recruitment 2026

Stage I – Physical Efficiency Test (PET): For Head Constable (Laboratory Assistant) and Head Constable (Physiotherapy Assistant), male candidates must complete 1.6 km race in 6 minutes 30 seconds and female candidates must complete 800 metres in 4 minutes. For Constable (Nursing Assistant cum Medic), male candidates must complete a 4.8 km race in 24 minutes and female candidates must complete a 2.4 km race in 18 minutes. Ex-Servicemen are exempted from PET.

Stage I (b) – Physical Standard Test (PST): Candidates who qualify PET will undergo PST. General male candidates require a minimum height of 165 cm with chest 75–80 cm. Relaxations are available for SC/ST, Garhwali, Kumaoni, Gorkha, Dogra, Maratha communities and candidates from North Eastern states and Left Wing Extremism-affected districts.

Stage II – Written Examination (CBT): For Head Constable posts, it is a 3-hour CBT of 150 marks with 150 MCQs: Part-I (50 marks) covering General Knowledge, Mathematics, Reasoning and General English/Hindi; Part-II (100 marks) covering Technical Subject. There is a negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer. For Constable (Nursing Assistant cum Medic), CBT is 2 hours duration of 100 marks with 100 MCQs on General Knowledge, Mathematics, Reasoning and General English/Hindi (no technical subject). Minimum qualifying marks: 50% for UR/EWS/OBC/Ex-Servicemen and 45% for SC/ST. Final merit is prepared solely on the basis of written exam marks.

Stage III – Documentation, DME & RME: After written exam, candidates up to 3 times the vacancies (category-wise) will be shortlisted for document verification and Detailed Medical Examination (DME). Candidates declared unfit in DME may appeal for Review Medical Examination (RME). The RME decision is final and no second appeal will be entertained.

Application Fee

UR, EWS and OBC candidates are required to pay a non-refundable examination fee of ₹100/- through net banking, credit card, debit card or UPI. SC, ST, Ex-Servicemen and female candidates are fully exempted from payment of examination fees.
