The President of India appointed a new Election Commissioner following a vacancy in the Election Commission of India (ECI). The appointment was made under the recently enacted Chief Election Commissioner and Other Election Commissioners (Appointment, Conditions of Service and Term of Office) Act, 2023, which established a three-member selection committee comprising the Prime Minister, a Cabinet Minister, and the Leader of the Opposition.

The Padma Awards 2026 investiture ceremony was held at Rashtrapati Bhavan. A total of 139 Padma Awards were conferred — 5 Padma Vibhushan, 17 Padma Bhushan, and 117 Padma Shri. India submitted its updated Tentative List for UNESCO World Heritage Site nominations for 2026–2030, adding Hoysala temples (Karnataka), Moidams of Assam (already inscribed in 2024), Satpura landscape, and the historic Dholavira trade city's extended zone. India currently has 42 UNESCO World Heritage Sites — 34 cultural, 7 natural, and 1 mixed. India ranks sixth globally in the total number of World Heritage Sites.
